In the category “Best Organic Farmer” Tom Kass, together with Gianpaolo Mancini from Italy and David Pejic from Croatia, has reached the final of the EU Organic Awards. The EU Organic Awards, launched by the European Commission in the framework of the “Action Plan for the Development of Organic Production”, are awarded for the first time this year. The finalists in the following seven categories have now been announced: Best Organic Farmer, Best Organic Region, Best Organic City, Best Organic District, Best Small or Medium Organic Business, Best Organic Food Retailer, Best Organic Restaurant. The award ceremony will take place on 23 September, the EU Organic Day.

On his homepage Tom Kass describes the farm he runs together with Anja Staudenmayer as follows: “The Kass-Haff is biodynamically run and sees itself as more than just a farm. Ethical, social and spiritual considerations flow into a joint project. The criteria on which the jury will base the EU-Organic Awards are: the excellence of the initiative, the innovative nature of the project and the transferability/possibility of replicating the project in other EU countries.
