With the ‘Landwirtschaft erliewen’ project, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture wants to offer schoolchildren the opportunity to get to know the profession of a farmer at first hand. On the farm, in the fields and with the animals, they will learn everything about food production in the region.

‘‘Landwirtschaft erliewen’ is a great initiative that allows children to experience the importance and diversity of agriculture right on the spot. By raising awareness among the youngest about the challenges of food production and the importance of regional products, we create awareness for sustainable agriculture. This project also strengthens the relationship between farmers and society and promotes understanding of the valuable work of farmers,’ said Martine Hansen, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture.

As a farmer, you play an important role in this project: your farm is a unique place for learning, experiencing and understanding. With your knowledge, you can help to raise pupils’ awareness of the importance of the origin and quality of food, as well as the responsible treatment of animals and nature.

Taking part in the project

The letzfarm.lu website is the point of contact between farms and school classes. You can set up and manage the section for farmers there yourself, i.e. you can publish a photo and information about your farm. Teachers can use criteria such as region, season and type of production to select the appropriate farm for the school class to visit and contact the farm manager to make an appointment.

You can easily register at letzfarm.lu by using the online form in the ‘For Farms’ section on the ‘Join the Project’ page. In a half-day training session, you will learn how to prepare your farm for a safe visit by schoolchildren. Questions about the remuneration you will receive as a farmer for the farm visits and about insurance will also be answered at this time. In addition, a half-day practical introduction to farm education is offered, participation in which is voluntary.

If you want to share your enthusiasm for agriculture with schoolchildren, then download the guidelines for farmers and check the checklist ‘Is this for me?’ to see if you fulfil the necessary requirements to offer pupils a memorable learning experience on your farm.
